Portuguese Wine

Rich and medium bodied, soft and ripe, there is a smoky edge to the berry fruit. Respectable, but I advise paying the extra for the Reserva. (5. 99, Fullers) 01/00 Deep, abundant, hot and focused, this is a mind-blowing white wine. Still pretty tannic, and not too sweet. Hints of licqourice.

This is a huge wine! Marvelous things, noticeably Portuguese, and one of the most unforgettable white wines I have actually had in current months.

(Bentalls 14) 05/00 This red wine was apparently trodden by foot in granite Lagares, and is unfiltered. Crimson colour, showing some small indications of maturity at the rim. I need to have decanted this white wine, as it had a small sediment. Sweet nose and spicy, soft flavours on the palate. Concentrated, smooth and abundant, all the elements of this red wine have come together well.

On the taste buds there is appealing peppery/cherry fruit, great concentration and fairly firm acidity and tannins. In general a very good, authentic red wine.

When many of us believe about Portuguese red wines, we consider Port, mainly from the Douro wine area, considering that images of its steep terraces are frequently the only ones we've seen of Portuguese vineyards. As Pipa and David Orrison inform us, Portugal is about much more than Port. The couple began Orison Wines in 2012, concentrated on the numerous amazing varietals Portugal provides.

Welcome to the world of Portuguese red wine, where Port is simply a part of the pour. There are more than 200 different grape varieties in Portugal, and U.S. wine drinkers generally know very couple of.

Making the red wine is a pleasure offering it in the U.S. is challenging, simply since the majority of Americans think Portugal = Port. "I signed up with a play date group with other moms," says Pipa, who just recently had an infant. "Everyone was thinking we primarily produce Port in Portugal, which is not true.

He shared his vision with me yesterday over a cool glass of Vinho Verde at the dynamic Red wines of Portugal trade fair in Montral. We call ourselves "a world of diversity" since it is the only way to summarize our abundant mosaic of red wines. You go to Vinho Verde, you have granite soils, cool temperature levels, a rainy environment.

It is hot and very dry.  Helpful site  are different, everything changes. You go to Do, Bairrada, Alentejo, they are all entirely different. Its extremely complex since it is not one single grape, one single design of wine, however that is what makes Portuguese white wine so remarkable. Twenty years earlier, individuals didn't understand that Portuguese white wine existed.

And in most cases, they didn't even realize that Port wine came from Portugal. It was like a brand, a design of wine, and not a Portuguese appellation (PDO). We have been striving to promote Portugal in the previous twenty years and I believe we have actually done it well.
